Rhinanthus minor are annuals and flower throughout the spring and summer and look lovely. Their dry seed pods rattle, hence their name. They shed their seeds from July, which germinate in the spring and become new plants and continue the grass suppressing effects for your grassland.

Germination; Germination can be problematic. This wild flower requires a long period of cold stratification. Can be sown indoors for improved germination rates and then planted out in autumn. Easiest though to sow directly in autumn into med/low fertile soil grassland. Grass should have been cut to 2-4cm prior to sowing and 50% of the area should be bare soil. Scatter seed, rake in. Allow nature to cold stratify over winter.
Growing; Once established this plant is low maintenance.
Cultivation; This plant will take a year to establish itself. Can be cut, along with the meadow grasses after flowering.
Sowing ; 1g per sq metre
