Although in its native home this is a small tree, in your conservatory it can easily be kept to six feet by annual pruning when it will readily produce its panicles of gorgeous and exotic bright yellow bells.
Yellow Trumpetbush is an attractive plant that is cultivated as an ornamental . It has sharply-toothed, lance-shaped green leaves and bears large, showy, bright golden yellow trumpet-shaped flowers. It is drought-tolerant and grows well in warm climates. The flowers attract bees , butterflies , and hummingbirds . The plant produces pods containing yellow seeds with papery wings. The plant is desirable fodder when it grows in fields grazed by livestock.
Yellow Trumpetbush is a ruderal species , readily colonizing disturbed, rocky, sandy , and cleared land and occasionally becoming an invasive weed. The leaves and roots of the plant contain bioactive compounds, especially monoterpenes , which may have medicinal uses; Honey bees are attracted to it, but-unlike most flowering plants-the honey produced from Yellow Trumpetbush's nectar/pollen is poisonous.

Tecoma stans is known by a variety of common names including yellow bells, hardy yellow trumpet, trumpet flower and yellow elder. This perennial shrub gets is popular names from the vivid yellow, trumpet-shaped blossoms that bloom in the spring, summer and fall. In areas with hard frost, it usually grows as a shrub, but in mild climates can grow as a tree that reaches up to 25 feet tall. Whatever you choose to call it, you can propagate Tecoma stans for your garden either through seeds or cuttings.
Propagating; Set the dried seeds in a tray or pot filled with peat moss or vermiculite. Cover lightly with the medium. Moisten the planting medium with water. Keep it moist but not wet until the sprouts develop. Place the pot or tray in indirect light. Seeds germinate in 14 to 21 days if kept at 72 degrees Fahrenheit.
