Petunia Grandiflora is a traditional summer bedding favourite, given a new lease of life by the modern fashion for patio pots and hanging baskets. It forms tight little bushes around a foot high, with deep green sticky leaves, covered in large floppy trumpet flowers throughout the summer. While these used to be mainly single flowers in deep velvety single colours or stripes, new varieties are often in lighter colours with veined throats or with frilly double flowers.

Pretty Wild Seeds are registered with the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) under number 7529, so you can have confidence in both our products and advice. Germination; Sow indoors Feb-Apr. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil. Place in a propagator or seal in a plastic bag to maintain humidity. Ideal temp. 20-25°C. Germination takes 2-3 weeks approx. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.

Growing; Prefers a rich, fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Added compost, manure or leaf compost will only improve the soil. A potting soil is ideal for container grown Petunias. Offer a sheltered situation away from drying winds. Water 1-2 times per week, allowing the top 5cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Water deeply, allowing the top 20cm of soil to become wet at each watering. a soluble fertiliser can be used every 2-3 weeks

Cultivation; Deadhead regularly to prolong the flowering window. If the plant is not deadheaded flowering may cease. Propagate by seed.
