Red Baron Onion Sets produce onions with such superb results. It’s no wonder this variety grows in popularity each year! Stronger flavoured than our other onions, it stores well from September until the following April. The glossy deep crimson skins and a red rim on each onion ring, give a delightful bicolour effect in salads.
Plant outdoors from as early as January for harvests from late July and August, tolerant to the cold, Red Baron copes well when planted early in the season. They look fantastic at harvest time, uniform, bulbous and coppery.
Pretty Wild Seeds are registered with the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) under number 7529, so you can have confidence in both our products and advice.

"Red Baron" onions are long-day onions, which mean they need between 14 and 16 hours of daylight to form bulbs. Long-day onions require planting after the last average frost date for your area because the bulbs form as the days lengthen. When you plant "Red Baron" sets, they should be 1 to 2 inches deep, 2 to 3 inches apart and 12 to 18 inches in between rows. Once seedlings develop, you can thin them about 3 to 4 inches apart to allow for bulb development.
"Red Baron" onions are red, dry onions, so you can harvest them when the tops have dried and the bulbs are about 3 to 5 inches in diameter. If you are not going to braid the tops, make sure to cut them off, leaving about 1 1/2 inches of the tops. The onions bulbs need to air-dry outdoors for about a week before brought inside and stored in a cool, dry place.
