Ligularia dentata 'Desdemona' is an exceptional cultivar of Ligularia dentata with large rounded foliage, finely-toothed on the margins and having purplish green colouration with deep purple-magenta on the undersides. Tall racemes of orange-yellow daisy-like flowers are borne in the summer.

Ligularia dentata 'Desdemona' thrives in a moist humus-rich deeply-dug soil and grows best in the shade where summer heat is unlikely to cause it to wilt. Perfect as a water-marginal along with Rodgersias or Rheums. This hardy perennial will grow between 80cm-1.2m, belongs in the family Asteraceae and is commonly known as the Midnight Lady.

Sowing; For best results, sow immediately onto a good soil-based compost. Cover the seeds with fine grit or compost to approximately their own depth. They can be sown at any time, and germination can sometimes be quicker if kept at 15 to 20 degrees C. We sow most seeds in an unheated greenhouse and wait for natural germination, as many seeds have built-in dormancy mechanisms, often waiting for natural spring germination, hence giving them a full season of growth.
